The Pottery Collective to offer a Handcrafted-Functional Art at Gallery Exhibit

 In Art and Gallery Shows

The Shelby County Arts Council is pleased to present the work of the SCAC Pottery Collective during the 3rd Annual Gallery exhibit August 5-August 31, 2016.  The public is invited to attend the Opening Artists Reception on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, to meet the artists, enjoy refreshments and shop the exhibit.   SCAC Pottery Collective Members are all artists who have their “roots” in the pottery program offered by the Council.  Once students, members of the Pottery Collective have gone on to teach and sale their artwork.

Creating a vessel from clay is an ancient art. Potters have used raw earth for centuries to create sculptures, bowls, cups and more that have withstood the test of time. Each step in the overall pottery process is an art in its self. The glazing process and firing techniques affect the finished piece as much as the process by which it is made.  Pottery is often referred to as “functional art” that may be used and admired simultaneously.

Featured artists for this exhibit are:  Amy Pickens, Aprille Hayes, Byron Smith, Candye Lundy, Joanne Pihakis, Karen Ingram, Pam Britnell, Peggy Wood, Sandra Annonio, and Stephanie Dikis.

All artwork is available for purchase on a “cash and carry basis”.  A portion of each sale is donated to the Shelby County Arts Council (a 501C3 organization).  The Shelby County Arts Council is located at 104 Mildred Street, Columbiana, AL 35051.  (205) 669-0044.
