The Basics of Sewing with Samantha Pursley




Ages 11& up

Have you wanted to make face masks but you don’t know where to start? Bring your sewing machine and join us for a 5 week beginner’s sewing class. The class will focus on how to set up your machine and basic sewing skills taught through fun projects. The course outline below highlights the techniques to be covered. Once you know how to use a machine, the possibilities are endless! I hope you will join us for what is sure to be an amazing time!
Week 1: Sewing machine basics and practice (How to thread the machine/ sewing practice)
Week 2: Quilted potholder project (quilting technique, pinning and wrong side/right side practice, Rotary Cutter)
Week 3: Bookmark Project (straight lines and pivot practice)
Week 4: Face Mask Part 1 (Cutting, clean edges, Pinning)
Week 5: Face Mask Part 2 (Seams, Pinning, Pleats)
Some project supplies will be provided. 
Students will need to bring these supplies to each class:
Sewing Machine
Sewing Pins
Spool of Thread
Bobbin (empty, we will wind in class)
Seam Ripper
Marking Pen or Chalk

*Your emailed receipt is your confirmation for the class. If the class does not make, students who have already signed up will be contacted.*

*An annual $25 registration fee is required to enroll in monthly classes and private lessons. This fee is due one time per calendar year. The class fee is waived for weekend workshops and Artist level members.*

Class will take place at the Shelby County Arts Council-105 West College St., Columbiana, 35051
