Intro to Wheel Throwing with John Pocopanni
Ages 16 & up only
Class dates: February 21st-March 28th-*Session is full*
During this 6 week course students will learn the basics of wheel thrown ceramics and
pottery including techniques for wedging clay, creating forms and glazing. The focus of
the class will be primarily for students to learn the basics of throwing on the wheel
including properly centering the clay, throwing off the mound, and throwing off the bat.
Students will begin the class learning to throw small bowls and progress in size and
form to finish the class out with an introductory knowledge of closed forms. Students
will be able to receive personalized and comprehensive instruction in a relaxed and fun

*Supplies are not provided for this class. Students will need to purchase clay and supplies before the class starts.*
Supplies: *All supplies can be purchased at Alabama Art Supply or Forestall Art Center* As a special welcome to this class, students who sign up for the February-March class will receive a coupon to Alabama Art Supply. Students MUST come to the SCAC office to pick up coupon.
-25lbs of clay (Amaco #38 Stoneware is suggested or clay that fires to Cone 6)
-Basic set of pottery tools including: small round sponge, wire tool, loop tool, & wooden rib tool
-medium size rubbermaid container or 3 trash bags to store clay in studio
-Students are encouraged to wear clothes they don’t mind getting dirty or bring a towel to drape over yourself while working on the wheel.
-Closed toed shoes must be worn at all times.
