Free and open to the public.

This exhibit will be on display from 11-21-19 through 1-10-19

    About the exhibit:

This exhibition features new work by Daisie Hoitsma and Jason Tanner Young.  Through
drawing, sculpture and installation, these artists address the fragmentation of the everyday, and
the systems and routines that connect and sustain.
Using plant-based imagery, mapping, and collected fragments, Hoitsma dissected and re-
arranged drawings focus on renewal; the fragile tenacity of new growth as it overlaps the old,
and the quiet insistence of sprouts sounding their arrival.
Much like a circulatory system, the sprue and runner system is a vital network that conveys hot
metal to all parts of a mold. Young’s sculptures embrace and accentuate this network of
vessels, highlighting the elegant and complex system that helps birth so many of our everyday
objects. Mining the region for materials, Young methodically collects and melts copper and
aluminum to produce a bronze alloy that as form and process, references a body, its systems
and behaviors. Young incorporates these cast bronze pieces into steel and wood compositions,
creating new hybridized forms. The wood is often processed and milled from downed storm-
damaged trees and branches. While fragments of tools can be identified in his works, the open,
twisting forms suggest the fluidity of fish or the movement of water.
Daisie Hoitsma received an MFA in Painting and Drawing from Ohio University, and a BFA from
the University of Texas at Tyler. Her work has been included in exhibitions at Manifest Gallery
(Cincinnati, OH), Attleboro Arts Museum (Attleboro, MA), Visual Arts Center (Huntington, WV),
Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center (Sioux Falls, SD), East Tennessee State University
(Johnson City, TN), Shawnee State University (Portsmouth, Ohio), Xavier University (Cincinnati,
OH), Morehead State University (Morehead, KY), and Ashland University (Ashland, OH) among
others. Hoitsma is currently an Adjunct Instructor at The University of Alabama.
Jason Tanner Young received an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
and a BFA from the University of Texas at Tyler. His work has been included in exhibitions at
The Sculpture Center (Cleveland, OH), Axis Gallery (Sacramento, CA), Weston Art Gallery
(Cincinnati, OH), Manifest Gallery (Cincinnati, OH) the Young Sculptors Competition at Miami
University (Miami, OH), the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts (Montgomery, AL), Visual Art
Exchange (Raleigh, NC), Evansville Museum (Evansville, IN), and Rosalux Gallery
(Minneapolis, MN) among many others. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Art and
director of the Sculpture concentration at the University of Montevallo.

They’re back!! Telluride is a Birmingham-based rock band founded in 1977 by guitarists Moose Harrell and Rick Carter with keyboardist Roger Bailey, drummer Robert Churchill, and bassist Jim Liner. If you grew up in the southeast in the 70’s/80s, you know what these musicians meant to the Central Alabama music scene! This will be a fun night of storytelling and killer classics-with a little Christmas spirit in the mix!
