Gallery Exhibit: Fine Folk Art V opening January 12, 2018
The Shelby County Arts Council will host the Fine Folk Art V Gallery Exhibit opening and artist reception on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 6-8pm. Teresa Wamble, guest curator, has assemble a group of award winning artists for this year’s exhibit.
Charlie “Tin Man” Lucas is the featured artist for the 2018 exhibit. Born in Birmingham and raised in Elmore county, Alabama, Mr. Lucas is a much beloved regional artist. His sculptural work incorporates the use of cast off materials such as iron, steel, wood and other materials often creating portraits of family members or other people he knows. In addition, he draws his inspiration from the Black Belt region of Alabama and the steel industry of Birmingham. His work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions at the New Orleans Museum of Art, Birmingham Museum of Art, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Rosa Parks Museum and Library at Troy University-Montgomery.
Additional artists in the Fine Folk Art V exhibit include: Mary Ann Casey (Auburn) , Marian Baker (Oneonta), JK Terrell (Tuscaloosa), Larry Stewart (Clanton) and Teresa Wamble (Calera).
The opening will be a feast for the senses with Live Music by Sam Frazier, Jr., an artist talk, light refreshments and masterful art.
