The Shelby County Arts Council presents: 

An evening of musical theater with Alabama native, Alie B. Gorrie performing her original Cabaret show, “Cockeyed Optimist.” Our very own musical theater students will be opening the show with a couple of songs from their recent performance of Frozen Jr. 

Before the performance begins, there will be a presentation honoring the Shelby County Arts Council with the “Stand for the Arts Award” presented by Ovation TV and Charter Communications. The evening will begin with a light reception at 7:00pm followed by the award ceremony beginning at 7:30pm, with the concert starting directly after the presentation. Tickets are $20 (plus tax) and can be purchased on the SCAC website.

About Alie B. Gorrie:

Alie B. Gorrie is a musical theatre artist who has entertained audiences on national tour, off-Broadway, and regionally with her incredible talent and unbelievable spirit. She is also a fierce advocate for disability inclusion. She is the founder of Songs for Sight, an organization serving children and teens with low vision across Alabama and has raised more than $1 million for low-vision research through her Songs for Sight organization, created to raise awareness and funds for the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the EyeSight Foundation of Alabama.

About the Stand for the Arts Award:

Ovation TV and partner Charter Communications select ten arts organizations each year to be a “Stand for the Arts Award Recipient.” Select arts organizations are awarded $10,000 along with the honor of being recognized as an outstanding arts organization. Stand For The Arts contributions based on the following criteria: their support of creatives and artists via community-driven programming; as advocates for equity and access to the arts; and for providing accessible community spaces for creative expression.
