Color + Sound is a tactile art installation exhibit that will feature the music of Dave Crenshaw and the art of Lindsay Dyess, Katlyn Coley, Bethany Moody, Jimmy Howard, and Stan Copeland.
The idea for this art exhibit came to life after curator and artist Lindsay Dyess listened to Crenshaw’s album, Color + Sound. She wanted to explore that idea further by creating a sensory based art exhibit where people could explore art installations using multi-sensory stimuli to enhance their understanding of art. The exhibit is a modern art installation with an emphasis on accessibility to all people. This exhibit encourages people to touch, explore and immerse themselves in the installations to get a better understand of the art form.
Each exhibiting artist has experience in different mediums which enhances the uniqueness of each installation. The artists were randomly assigned a different color to use within their work and artists were encouraged to use a variety of textures and items in their work that are interactive and could be inclusive to blind and deaf visitors. Gallery visitors are encouraged to touch, explore, walk through, sit under, stand in the middle of-become part of the work. Art is not just for the sighted, it should be available and accessible for anyone to appreciate.

An evening of classic country music as innovated by the one and only Patsy Cline and performed by the Sassy Brown Band featuring Lauren Brown on vocals and Glen Butts on guitar leading a band of seasoned musicians.
Patsy Cline was a country music icon in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. She managed to hit the pop music charts and was one of the most influential and successful singers in American music history before her sudden death in a tragic plane crash at age 30.

Dave Crenshaw has been a multidisciplinary (and 2x Grammy winning) musician his entire life, but in 2020 Crenshaw began experiencing issues with his site that eventually led to vision loss. That was when he felt like the time was right to put his Color + Sound project into the world. With the stress of the Covid pandemic happening, the album was in a sense music therapy for Crenshaw and other listeners dealing with hardships. On August 6th Crenshaw brings Color + Sound to life in the Song Theater at the Shelby County Arts Council. Crenshaw and the band will perform the album in its entirety live, while visuals will be projected on a screen on the stage. “Keep an open mind,” says Crenshaw. “Come and be prepared to experience music through color and sound.”
