Black Box Theater Update

In Current News, SCAC At Old Mill Square

July has been a busy busy month packing and cleaning, all while hosting art camp and music classes! A few days ago the old Black Box Theater stage was disassembled and moved out of our current facility. It’s sad to say goodbye to a building we have called home for the last few years, but we are so excited for the things to come!

Many of you have been eager to purchase tickets to Sean of the South (August 17th) and Three on a String (August 24th) and we are pleased to announce that tickets have officially gone on sale! They can be purchased by clicking here. We were hoping our first performance in the new Black Box Theater would be the Sean of the South performance, but there is a chance the new venue will not be completely ready to occupy. We decided to move the performance to Shelby County High School (101 Washington St., Columbiana, 35051) rather than cancel or reschedule the performance. All seats for this performance will be $25 and all general admission (no reserved seating).

Three on a String is scheduled for the new Black Box Theater location at Old Mill Square. If the venue changes all ticket holders will be contacted by email of the venue change. All tickets for this show will be $25 and all general admission seating (no reserved seating).

Starting for Black Box Theater performances scheduled for September we will have a brand new ticket buying experience! We have recently acquired new ticket software which allows patrons to purchase reserved seats. Unfortunately we will no longer offer specific reserved seats to our SCAC members, but starting in the Fall we will launch brand new (and better) benefits to our membership packages!

The SCAC is excited to host Alabama Bicentennial Traveling Art Exhibit!  The exhibit will be held at the Shelby County Exhibition Center (86 Argo Road, Columbiana, AL 35051) from August 17th through August 28th, 2019. Admission is FREE and everyone is encouraged to check out this exhibit featuring highlights of Alabama’s history.

Click here for exhibit hours and to set up group and school tours.

Art education classes are scheduled to resume the second week of September. Check out our full list of classes under the ‘Tickets & Classes’ tab of our website by mid-August for an updated schedule.

There will also be a grand opening event to officially mark the opening of the new facility. Look for more details of that coming event soon!

Everyday we move a little bit closer to occupying our new facility! We are so excited to share our new space with everyone in the community. We would also like to take a moment to thank everyone in our community who has gone ABOVE AND BEYOND to help us out! So many wonderful people have gone out of their way to donate boxes and funds for packing, helped us pack, clean, taken out the stage, offered us office and class room space to continue operations, and simply stopped by the office and said “How can I help?”. We cannot thank YOU enough for supporting us as a community. All of this would not be possible without you.

Thank you!
