Ryan Foster-University of Montevallo

Ryan Foster was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. He obtained a B.F.A from The University of
Montevallo (2006) and an M.F.A. from The University of South Florida (2011). Both degrees
were given with a concentration in Painting and Printmaking. In 2012, Ryan joined the faculty at
The University of Montevallo where he teaches Drawing Foundations, Digital Foundations, 2D
Design and Color Theory. He is also the Gallery Director where he manages the curation and
installation of over a dozen exhibitions across two galleries each year. His oil painting studio is
located inside his historic home within the Highland Park neighborhood of downtown
Birmingham and his work can be seen at jamesryanfoster.com.

Paulina Banas-UAB

Dr. Paulina Banas is an Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Her research focuses on modern art and visual culture in the context of cross-cultural encounters between Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. At UAB, she has offered classes related to the arts of Africa, the Islamic world, art and travel, and modern art, and has enjoyed taking students for the exploration of local collections of artworks, such as the one at the Birmingham Museum of Art. Originally from Poland, Paulina holds a PhD from Binghamton University and an MA from Sorbonne University.
