Collections : Events : "Paintin' the Town" Rae Lynn Dodson Solo Exhibit

About the Exhibit: Local Columbiana artist Rae Lynn Dodson has been "paintin' the town", literally! Beginning in 2006 with her restoration of a 1950 Liberty Overalls Billboard and her 2008 painting of a Coca Cola billboard, the townspeople of Columbiana have become accustom to seeing the artist perched atop scaffolding. Now with the opening of Dodson's solo exhibition, "Paintin' the Town", displayed in the gallery of the Shelby County Arts Council, Columbiana will have the opportunity to see their town captured on canvas. Dodson's recent body of work depicts commercial and residential scenes from the quaint and wonderfully nostalgic town of Columbiana. Included in the exhibition will be familiar scenes such as Bernie's on Main Street, the Columbiana Inn, the signature lampposts that line the streets, and golf clubs spotted resting against a weathered rocking chair. Viewers will enjoy recognizing the place and time represented in the artworks. The "Dew Drop Inn Cafe" painting will bring back memories for those who once ate and socialized there. Exhibit dates: October 8 - 29, 2009 Gallery Hours: Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday, 10am - 5pm. Call to make an appointment for viewing outside gallery hours. 205.669.0044
