CALL FOR ART - 4th Annual Juried Art Exhibit deadline to enter is August 19, 2012
The Shelby County Arts Council is proud to announce it's 4th Annual Juried Art Festival coming up this September. The Honorary Juror will be University of Alabama in Birmingham Art Professor Gary Chapman. Chapman has had over 50 solo exhibitions with institutions such as The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, University of Cincinnati, University of Georgia, and University of Miami. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions with regional, national and international venues. Chapman's work has received recognition and awards from such notable figures as Ned Rifkin, Dennis Barrie, John Ravenal, Annette Carlozzi and Jack Cowart. In 2008 his work was selected and published in the book Alabama Masters: Artists and their work. He has received numerous grants and fellowships including a 1996 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Painting from the Southern Arts Federation and 2001 and 1994, Individual Artist Fellowships from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
This year, the recipient of the Best in Show award will win a $500 grand prize and a Solo Exhibit at the SCAC Gallery slated for May 2013. First place winners in each art medium category will win $150 prize. Artists are allowed to submit in any medium for a total of four entries. Last year, artists were allowed to submit up to three entries. For the first time this year, the Arts Council will "GO GREEN" and allow digital submissions only. The deadline to enter is midnight of August 19th, 2012. With the $75 entry fee, the artists will receive the benefits of an Artist Membership at SCAC which include free entry into the annual December Artist Market, SCAC/Chelsea Library Gallery Exhibits, Sidewalk Exhibits, and much, much more!
The opening reception is slated for Thursday, September 6th, 2012, from 6:00 - 7:30pm at the Shelby County Arts Council Gallery in Columbiana, Alabama. Awards will be presented at 6:45pm. The exhibit dates are September 6th, 2012 - October 18th, 2012. The opening reception is free and open to the public.
